Experiences of a Lifetime!

Cultural Enrichment — Giving Back — Language Proficiency

BAILEY OLSBO, from Millard West HS, used funds to enrich the French lessons she and classmates taught at Rohwer Elementary.  The High School students created fun classes where the kids enjoyed learning French with the resources she had purchased.

VICTORIA SWANSON of Elkhorn South was chosen to be the French announcer for an Honor Band as they traveled to seven countries and five performances. Victoria’s scholarship supported her adventure, blending two of her greatest passions: French and music. As we boarded our final and delayed plane into Omaha, I reflected on the amazing journey. I was really proud of and excited about the French experience I had gotten and felt a new excitement and encouragement to continue my French in college this fall.”

EMMA FOLAND organized a creative experience for all advanced French students at Bennington HS. She and her classmates paired up with culinary & pastry students and head chef, Peter Walsh, at MCC’s Culinary School who created and serve an authentic five-course French meal at Sage Bistro. During the luncheon, Emma did a presentation about the dishes they were enjoying and two Bennington spoke about the value of their French studies now that they are in college. C’était magnifique!

Thanks to money from the AFO Student Scholarship Program, two-time recipient DARBY RONNING from Papillon-La Vista South was able to spend two summers as a camper at Lac du Bois, Concordia Language Villages’ French Camp in Moorhead, Minnesota. She went on to work there as a counselor & lifeguard for three more years. Subsequently, she graduated with a minor in French from UNM and was accepted into a program to be a language teaching assistant in Normandie in France! She is grateful to the AFO scholarship for helping to make these rewarding experiences possible and for launching her into a career linked to French!

We’re proud of all our recipients!

Nous sommes fiers de tous nos lauréats!
