Elizabeth McInerny, M.D.

Elizabeth McInerney, M.D., was born in New Brunswick, the only officially bilingual province in Canada. She is a dual US-Canadian citizen. She was exposed to the French language early, in school and daily life, in addition to having a grandmother whose first language was French. She continued to study French in college, subsequently going on to pursue a career in medicine. While in Canada, her children attended French immersion schools. She and her husband, Dr. Mark Johnston, emigrated to the USA in 1997. Beth, as she is known to friends, retired in 2018 after 38 years as a physician. She and her husband, also an AFO member, travel frequently to France, where they have family connections. She has taken numerous classes through the Alliance in order to improve her fluency in the language. She is delighted to be a part of such a dynamic and diverse group with a shared enthusiasm for French language and culture, as well as wider interests in travel, cuisine, music, theatre, and the arts. Recognized as the Volunteer of the Year in 2022.
Elizabeth McInerney, médecin, est née au Nouveau-Brunswick, la seule province officiellement bilingue au Canada. Elle a la double nationalité américaine et canadienne. Elizabeth a été exposée très tôt à la langue française, à l'école et dans la vie quotidienne, y compris la compagnie de sa grand-mère dont la langue maternelle était le français. Elle a continué à étudier le français à l’université, avant de poursuivre une carrière en médecine. Au Canada, ses enfants ont fréquenté des écoles françaises. Elle a émigré aux États-Unis en 1997 avec son mari, le Dr Mark Johnston. Beth, comme l'appellent ses amis, a pris sa retraite en 2018 après 38 ans de service en tant que médecin. Elle et son mari, également membre de l'AFO, voyagent souvent en France, où ils entretiennent des liens familiaux. Elle a suivi de nombreux cours de français via l'Alliance afin d'améliorer sa maîtrise de la langue. Elle est ravie de faire partie d'un groupe aussi dynamique et diversifié, qui partage son enthousiasme pour la langue et la culture française; de même, les membres de l'AFO partagent avec elle des intérêts connexes pour les voyages, la cuisine, la musique, le théâtre et les arts. Reconnue comme Bénévole de l'année en 2022.
